Detox (Dr. Dre album)

Detox is the upcoming third and final studio album by rapper and record producer Dr. Dre. It was originally due for a 2004 release, but was not completed because Dr. Dre wanted to concentrate on producing for artists that were on his Aftermath Entertainment record label.

Studio album by Dr. Dre

Released: November–December 2008

Recorded: 2003–2008

Genre: West Coast hip hop, gangsta rap

Label: Aftermath, Interscope

Producer: Dr. Dre (exec.), Dawaun Parker, Focus, Hi-Tek, J. R. Rotem, Just Blaze, Mahogany, Mel-Man, Nottz, Mr. Porter, RZA, Scott Storch, Warren G, DJ Khalil

Dr. Dre chronology

2001: Detox

(1999): (2008)

Background

Work for the album dates back to early 2004,[4] but later in that year he decided to stop working on the album to focus on producing for other artists. The album had initially been set for a fall 2005 release.

On February 18, 2007, Dr. Dre revealed to Power 106 radio that he had completed eighteen potential tracks for the album. He plans to have twelve or thirteen songs in the final version, with each one being a single. He also announced that the introductory track is titled “Intervention”. However, Bishop Lamont stated that the album will include more than thirteen tracks.

In an interview, 50 Cent was asked about Detox, in which he spoke of his collaborations and Dr. Dre’s progress, stating,

He’s working on it. I’ve recorded two songs for him. He’s such a perfectionist. But sometimes that can be a bad thing. You create new pressure when you wait that long. When you put a new album against the last two classics, people will scrutinize it if they become impatient.

On September 9, 2007, before presenting the award for Video of the Year on the MTV Video Music Awards, Dr. Dre stated that Detox will be released. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Dre said the album will be released after Eminem’s sixth studio album.

On September 21, 2007, he revealed to Hillary Crosley of Billboard magazine that Detox will be his final album and released in 2008.In February 2008, Bishop Lamont also announced a second “Up in Smoke Tour” to begin shortly after the album.

In May 2008, rumors spread that Detox had been completed. That same month, Detox and Eminem’s new studio album were revealed to be released for the fourth quarter of 2008. In an interview with Defsounds, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo stated that they are unsure if they will appear on Detox. They stated that 50 Cent has recorded about three songs for Detox. In an interview with the website DubCNN.com, rapper The D.O.C. also said that fellow N.W.A members Ice Cube and MC Ren would most likely not be guests on the album. Although Ice Cube later stated in August 2008 that he is likely to be featured on the album.

In June 2008, Snoop Dogg announced that Detox was completed and that Dre is looking for the right songs for the album. He also said it would be worth the wait. During the same month, Dr. Dre revealed that he is aiming to release the album in November or December of 2008. He said “I’m just now, over the last couple of months, starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it.” Dr. Dre also talked about the drum work on the album that is derived from live instrumentation, saying “We have an entirely new thing going with the drums that’s incredible and we’re still developing that.”

On August 6th it was reported that Dr. Dre and Drinks Americas made a joint venture to release a drink called “Aftermath Cognac” within the next 60 days. According to Drinks Americas, this drink would be introduced at the same time as the Detox album as part of a marketing plan.

Music

Concept

At one point, Dr. Dre had intended for Detox to be a concept album. In an interview with MTV in 2002, Dr. Dre stated,

I’m not talking about lowriders and blunts and all that anymore… I mean, that’s played. As a matter of fact, I’m tired of hearing other people talk about it, to tell you the truth… I had to come up with something different but still keep it hardcore, so what I decided to do was make my album one story about one person and just do the record through a character’s eyes, and everybody that appears on my album is going to be a character, so it’s basically going to be a hip-hop musical.

Featured guests

Dr. Dre first mentioned Detox to the press around 2000, and since that time various producers and vocalists have contributed with potential tracks.[25] Dr. Dre bought a beat for Detox from producer J. R. Rotem in 2003, going so far as to record a track, “It Ain’t a Thing”. In January 2004, co-producer Scott Storch listed guest appearances by 50 Cent, Eminem, The Game, Guvner, Knoc-turn’al, Lloyd Banks, and Snoop Dogg. A XXL article released shortly thereafter listed many of the same performers, along with Mary J. Blige. Aftermath-affiliated producers Dawaun Parker, Hi-Tek, DJ Khalil, and Focus are also working with Dr. Dre.[28][29][30] When asked about Detox by dubcnn.com, Devin the Dude claimed to have accepted an invitation to record for the album.[31] Mike Elizondo has recorded bass guitar parts for Detox. An interview with Billboard revealed that J. R. Rotem will produce for the album.[33] RZA announced that he co-produced a track with Dr. Dre that features Marsha Ambrosius, which could be on Detox.[34] MP3.com has reported that Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg have also contributed to the album. Jay-Z and Warren G stated that they worked with Dr. Dre. In March 2005, Aftermath producer Mel-Man said that Dr. Dre and himself have made hundreds of beats for Detox. In July 2008, it was confirmed that Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Nas will be among guests on the album. In August 2008, Ice Cube also stated he is likely to be featured.

By Khabrein.Info Correspondent,

New Delhi, Aug 25, 2008: Sixth Pay Commission is an important step by the government. In the highlights given in the following lines we can understand the difference that the Sixth Pay Commission may well make on the lives of the ordinary government employees.

One thing is pretty sure. It will bring some welcome improvements in most government employees’ pay packages thus improving their lives at least slightly.

All efforts from some quarters to derail the sixth pay commission have failed. Instead the union government has made some changes in the recommendations and all for the better.

Sixth pay commission not only increases the pay package but gives some other and very important benefits. One of the most important benefits that it gives to government employees is on pension front and voluntary retirements.

You need no longer remain in government service for 33 years to get full pension benefit.

You can leave your government job after completing 20 years and you will still be given full pension benefits.

Some important highlights

* Minimum basic Salary - Rs. 7000

* Education Allowances for employees for upto two children - Rs. 1,000 per month (Earlier, it was Rs. 100)

* Maximum Basic Salary - Rs. 90,000 (Cabinet Secretary)

* National Holidays - 3

* Gazette Holidays to be canceled

* Pay hike will be implemented from January 01, 2006

* Maternity Leave : 6 Months

* HRA in A-1 Cities - 30% (Unchanged)

* HRA in A, B, B-1 Cities - 20%

* Increase in Transport Allowance at the lowest level to Rs.600 (from Rs.400 in A-1/A class cities recommended by the Sixth CPC) and Rs.400 (from Rs.300 in other cities recommended by the Sixth CPC).

* Incentive Schemes to be announced

* New Medical Insurance Scheme to be launched for government employees

* Market-driven pay for scientists and all other jobs that require professional skill set.

* Total number of salary grades to be reduced from 35 to 20.

* Government has continued the present position of granting Group A scale to Group B officers after 4 years of service and these officers would be placed in PB-3 instead of PB-2 recommended by the Sixth CPC. This would benefit Group B officers of the Railways, Accounts Services, CSS, CSSS and DANICS & DANIPS.

* The government increased the minimum entry level salary of a government employee to Rs 7,000 against Rs 6,660 recommended by the Commission headed by Justice B N Srikrishna who submitted the report in March this year.

* Consequently, it would push up the total emoluments of an employee at the lowest level beyond Rs 10,000 per month including allowances.

* It also increased the rate of annual increment from 2.5 per cent to 3 per cent.

* In the defence sector, it approved at least three assured promotions for all defence forces personnel and civilian employees under the modified Assured Career Progression scheme.

* While civilians would get this after 10, 20 and 30 years of service, defence forces jawans would be promoted under ACP after 8, 16 and 24 years.

* Group D personnel to stay (peons in ministries and porters in Railways).

* For the Railway employees who are in receipt of Running Allowance, this allowance will be taken into account while fixing their pay in revised pay bands;

* For Doctors, the Cabinet has approved promotions under the Dynamic ACP Scheme upto Senior Administrative Grade (Joint Secretary level) for Doctors with 20 years of service. Counting of Dearness Allowance (DA) on Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) as on 01.01.2006 for fixing their pay in revised pay bands has also been approved;

* For the scientists, continuation of the existing system of grant of Special Pay of Rs.2000 p.m. to Scientists G on promotion and doubling of the amount to Rs.4000 p.m. in Departments of Space and Atomic Energy and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has been recommended.

* Further, the IPS Pay Rules and the Indian Forest Service Pay Rules will be appropriately modified to provide in each State cadre one post of DGP and one post of PCCF at the apex level of Rs.80000 for heading their respective Forces.

* Middle level Police and Civilian officers i.e. DIGs, Conservator of Forests, Scientists E & F, Superintending Engineers, Directors, Additional Commissioners of Income Tax and Central Excise and posts in equivalent grades have also been placed in PB-4.

* The rates of Special Forces Allowance for Army and Air Force to be equated with navy’s Marine Commando Allowance;

* For the officers of Central Para Military Forces, all the posts of Additional DIG upgraded to DIG level by the Pay Commission to continue to be manned by the cadre officers of CPMFs;

* As replacement of the pay scale of Rs.24050-26000, a separate pay scale has been carved for DGPs, PCCFs, GM (Railways), members of the Boards of Income Tax, Customs & Central Excise, Postal and Ordnance Factories, among others, who were in this pre-revised scale. This would take them to the level of Rs.80000 in two years as against three years in the pre-revised scale.

* The hiked salary would be given to the employees beginning September this year and the arrears from January 2006 would be given in cash in two installments - 40 per cent this fiscal and 60 per cent in 2009-10.

* The government for the first time approved Military Service Pay for armed forces personnel, under which officers would get Rs 6,000 over and above their pay per month.

* The lowest limit of disability pension for defence personnel would be doubled to Rs 3100 a month.

* No Cabinet Secretary rank for Intelligence Bureau chief, the three Service chiefs or the Chairman, Railway Board.

* Military service pay for persons below the officer rank (POBR) would be Rs 2,000 per month.

* Significant hike in salaries of Brigadiers: they move to Pay Band 4 (Rs 39,200-67,000) from the suggested Pay Band 3 (Rs 15,600-39,100).

* DIG-scale abolished in IPS and Indian Forest Service.

* The salaries of Brigadiers will be in Pay Band 4 (Rs 39,200-67,000) as against the suggested pay band 3 (Rs 15,600 - 39,100) previously.

The wage hike would increase the financial implication for the Centre by Rs 17,798 crore annually and the arrears with effect from January 2006 would cost Rs 29,373 crore, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting. The financial implication of Pay Commission on the General Budget would be Rs 15,717 crore and Rs 6414 crore on Railway Budget in 2008-09. The government’s present salary bill is over Rs 70,000 crore and the pension bill is over Rs 30,000 crore. Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the budget deficit target would be adhered to, despite the implementation of the Pay Commission recommendations.

Personal loans and auto loans are passé. Enter iPhone loans, which are set to provide the money for the aspirational handset that has been making waves the world over.

Vodafone and Bharti Airtel, which are set to introduce this next generation cell phone on Friday, have tied up with ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Barclays Bank to provide finance to customers who are planning to buy the iPhone but can’t afford it immediately.

“As per the arrangement, customers who hold a credit card of any of these banks can avail iPhone without any down payment and at a rate which will be significantly below the interest rates charged for credit cards or personal loans,” said a top official working with a leading telecom service provider who did not wish to be named.

For instance ICICI Bank offers personal loans that range between 9.8 per cent and 15.5 per cent per annum. However, finance for the iPhone would be available at a significantly lesser interest rate.

“The amount can be reimbursed in 6 to 12 months equated monthly installments (EMIs),” said an official who has direct knowledge of the deal.

However, spokespersons of both Airtel and Vodafone declined to comment on the issue.

A top ICICI official confirmed that the bank has agreed to offer a credit facility similar to ones available for any high-end product in the market. “This could be similar to the credit facility that we are currently offering in the consumer finance space,” the official said.

The move to provide credit facility is being seen as a step by operators to nullify the hefty price tag under which the phones are offered in India.

“In the US, the operators are giving subsidies to increase the usage and the attraction is the price tag. You need to have a price advantage while you market this in India,” said an industry analyst. “However, you cannot compare India and the US as both are two different markets.”

Vodafone and Bharti Airtel are marketing two categories of iPhones at Rs 31,600 and Rs 36,000 in the Indian market.

iPhone has third generation mobile telephony features and is twice as fast compared with existing mobile phones. The phone also has an in-built GPS system that facilitates as a navigation and positioning tool.

According to analysts, the iPhone is a high-end luxury phone and is not sold on credit. “Here it will take time to test how the market will react to it. We need to wait and watch up to what extend this could be received,” said Nishna Biyani, telecom analyst with the city-based brokerage firm, Prabhudas Leeladhar.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Biography

Early life and career

Hewitt was born in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Patricia Mae (née Shipp), a speech-language pathologist, and Herbert Daniel Hewitt, a medical technician.[2] Hewitt grew up in Nolanville, Texas; after the divorce of her parents, Hewitt and her only sibling, Todd Hewitt, were brought up by her mother. Her first name was given to her by her brother, after a girl he was fond of as a youngster, while her middle name, “Love”, was given to her by her mother after her best friend in college.

As a young girl, Hewitt was attracted to music, which led to her first encounters with the entertainment industry. At the age of three, she sang “The Greatest Love of All” at a livestock show. Just a year after that, at a restaurant-dance hall, she entertained an audience with her version of “Help Me Make It Through the Night”. By the time she was five, Hewitt already had tap dancing and ballet in her portfolio. At nine, she became a member of the Texas Show Team (which also toured in the Soviet Union). At the age of ten, at the suggestion of talent scouts and winning the title of Texas Our Little Miss Talent Winner, she moved to Los Angeles, California, with her mother to pursue a career in both acting and singing.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Film career

Jennifer Love Hewitt as one of the main dancers in the Dance! Workout With Barbie video, released in 1992.After moving to Los Angeles, Hewitt appeared in more than twenty television commercials. Her first break came as a child actor on the Disney Channel variety show Kids Incorporated (1989–1991), where she was credited as just Love Hewitt. During this time she danced in and sang all the songs for a live action video called “Dance! Workout With Barbie” released by Buena Vista.

In 1993, she played Pierce Brosnan’s daughter in a pilot for NBC called Running Wilde, which featured Brosnan as a reporter for Auto World magazine whose stories cover his own wild auto adventures. However, the series wasn’t picked up and the pilot never aired. Hewitt later had roles in several short-lived television series, such as Fox’s Shaky Ground (1992–1993), ABC’s The Byrds of Paradise (1994), and McKenna (1994–1995), and finally became a young star after landing the role of Sarah Reeves on the popular Fox Television show Party of Five (1995–1999). She assumed the role of Sarah after joining that show during its second season and continued it on the short-lived Party of Five spin-off, Time of Your Life (1999), which she also co-produced. The show was cancelled after only half a season.

Hewitt made her film debut in the independent film Munchie (1992). She became a film star after a lead role in the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), which enjoyed great box-office success (125,000,000 U.S. dollars worldwide). The film made Hewitt and her co-stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe, and Sarah Michelle Gellar some of the most popular young stars in the USA. She also appeared in the sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), which, though ultimately not as successful as the first film, took in more money on its opening weekend. Other notable film roles have included the high-school comedy Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) and a starring role with Sigourney Weaver in the romantic comedy Heartbreakers (2001).

In 2000, Hewitt appeared in The Audrey Hepburn Story. That same year, she was the “most popular actress on television” due to her Q-rating (a measurement of a celebrity’s popularity) of thirty-seven. For that reason, Nokia chose her to become its spokesperson, because of her “fresh image”, and her being “a symbol of youthfulness and wholesomeness”.

In 2001, she appeared in the music video for the Enrique Iglesias song, “Hero”, as the singer’s love interest.

Hewitt wrote I’m Gonna Love You for the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame II because, although she was a well-known singer at the time, her character Madellaine was the only character who didn’t sing in the movie. The song won an award for Best Song on DVD Awards.

Since September 2005, Hewitt has starred in the television series Ghost Whisperer. In Australia, Ghost Whisperer has been popular since its introduction; in the United States, the show averages 9–11 million viewers for each new episode. Hewitt has also auditioned for many roles. She was asked to play “Juliet” in Romeo + Juliet, but the director felt she wasn’t modern looking. The role went to Claire Danes. She also had to give up the role of “Darlene” in Brokedown Palace because of scheduling conflicts. Hewitt also auditioned for the role of “Elektra” in Daredevil.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Music career

In 1991, Meldac funded the recording of Hewitt’s first album ‘Love Songs’, when she was just 12. The album was only released in Japan in 1992 where Hewitt became a pop star. Her explanation for her success in Japan is that the Japanese “love perky music. The poppier the music, the better.”

After she joined the cast of Party of Five in 1995, she signed to Atlantic Records, who rushed her first single and second album Let’s Go Bang out in October. Neither the single nor the album generated much public interest.

Juggling her music career with her acting career, she recorded her follow-up in 1996. The first single, “No Ordinary Love” failed to chart and led to the album doing the same. Atlantic dropped Hewitt, who didn’t return to the music scene for 3 years.

In 1999, she recorded the single “How Do I Deal” for the I Still Know What You Did Last Summer Soundtrack. The song became Hewitt’s first charting single by climbing to #59 on the Hot 100 and #36 on the Top 40 Mainstream. It also reached #8 in Australia.

In 2002, Hewitt signed to Jive Records and recorded her fourth album with singer/songwriter/producer Meredith Brooks. The first single, “BareNaked”, became her biggest radio hit to date when it peaked at #24 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, #31 on the Adult Top 40 and #25 on the Top 40 Mainstream. It also climbed to #6 in Australia and #33 in the Netherlands. The success of the single propelled her album of the same name to peak at #37 on the Billboard 200 and #31 in Australia. However, it only remained on the chart for 3 weeks. The second single, “Can I Go Now”, failed to chart in the US, while managing to peak at #8 in the Netherlands and #12 in Australia.

Since 2003, Hewitt hasn’t actively done anything in the music industry, but a compilation called Cool with You: The Platinum Collection was released in Asia.

Hewitt co-wrote and performed two songs for the If Only movie soundtrack which in 2004 she starred in. These were ‘Love Will Show You Everything’ and ‘Take My Heart Back’.

Also in 2004 she appeared in the made-for-television musical “A Christmas Carol” in the singing role of Ebenezer Scrooge’s fiance Emily.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Personal life

Hewitt is an honorary godparent of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund.

Hewitt began dating Scottish actor Ross McCall in January 2006 after he made an appearance on Ghost Whisperer. In November 2007, while vacationing in Hawaii, the couple became engaged.[5] Some paparazzi photographs secretly taken during this vacation show Hewitt with a slightly higher weight than previously and were subsequently criticized by bloggers. Hewitt responded: “I’ve sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women’s bodies are constantly scrutinized…. What I should be doing is celebrating some of the best days of my life and my engagement to the man of my dreams, instead of having to deal with photographers taking invasive pictures from bad angles.”

She has also dated singer-guitarist John Mayer, talk show host Carson Daly, actor/model Kip Pardue, writer Chris Benson, singer-songwriter Rich Cronin, actor and singer Joey Lawrence, professional kayaker Brad Ludden, and actor Will Friedle.
