IndiGo, the Delhi-based, low-cost carrier, has ended Air Deccan’s five-year reign as the largest low-cost carrier in the industry. The change took place in August, just before full-service carrier Kingfisher Airlines erased the Air Deccan brand.
Air Deccan, which was renamed Simplifly Deccan after the merger with Kingfisher last year, is now called Kingfisher Red. (more…)
The seventeen-year-old wait by Bangaloreans finally ended on Friday night – The swanky new Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) at Devanahalli became operational when the Indian carrier IC 609 from Mumbai made a touch down at 22:37 pm.
“It is a proud moment for Bangalore and Karnataka”, exclaimed Infosys employee Sheela Shenoy, the first air passenger to set her foot on the airport, the first phase of which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2,470 crore. (more…)

Lucknow, April 4 (IANS) Air Deccan announced here Friday that it has joined hands with ICICI Lombard General Insurance to launch a domestic travel insurance scheme covering accidental medical expense, ticket cancellation and lost baggage. The insurance scheme, which costs Rs.99 per person, was started April 1. It can be availed through the Air Deccan website (Airdeccan.net).
Ramki Sundaram, officiating CEO of Air Deccan, said: “We believe our joint offering with ICICI Lombard will help travellers evaluate their need for travel cover and avail a comprehensive and beneficial insurance package.”
