In principle, 6th Pay Commission stands implemented for state employees. Good enough! But what about University and College teachers? Asks Dr. Farooq Ahmed Shah.
Historically, higher education has been responsible for the socio-cultural emancipation and economic prosperity of Indian society. In fact, there has traditionally been a symbiotic relationship between higher education and socio-economic development and indeed this fact has been recognized much early. The emergence of the knowledge society concept; the growth of information and communication technology; the changing dynamics of international trade based on the principles of liberalization, globalization and competitiveness, and the resultant recast of the politico-economic power structure on the global map have given rise to a unique world order that is essentially determined by competence in the realm of education and knowledge. Internally also, higher education has well been recognized as a tool to inclusive growth and reduction of socio-economic and developmental inequalities. read more
