JAIPUR: The decision of some private schools in the city to implement fee hike has given jitters to parents. The schools have hiked fee from 23% to 35%. In the absence of any regulatory body, it is most likely for the parents to shell out more money for their children’s education from coming academic session.
Several private unaided schools have already issued a revised fee structure for 2009-10 and distributed among the students today. The decision has evoked mixed reaction among the Parents’ community, which has a strength of over 1 lakh (parents of students studying in CBSE schools in Jaipur). (more…)

NEW DELHI: IPS officers are gearing up to fight another battle against alleged pro-IAS bias of the government which is planning to give an ‘edge’ to babus of the administrative service over officers of similar ranks in the police service by creating a higher salary grade.
If the provocation for the last across-the-ranks mobilization was the ‘pro-IAS tilt’ in the drafting of the sixth pay commission, the trigger for the fresh flutter among cops is what they call a hush-hush effort to create a higher salary slab for the IAS — a move which IPS officers think is aimed at giving IAS a tag of ‘superior service’. NEW DELHI: Aircel launched its GSM services in Delhi on Wednesday to become the 7th operator to fight for market share in a city that boasts of both the highest per capita income in India after Chandigarh and Goa as well as a teledensity touching 90%.
Its entry promises to create some excitement for customers with attractive tariff plans that will be valid for a year and a claim to a superior network. With new entrants pouring into the market, Delhi’s other six mobile operators Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, MTNL, Tatas and Reliance may also be forced to improve their tariff plans in days ahead. (more…)

Sadly the 45 year old actress has passed away after a skiing accident…
Actress Natasha Richardson has died in a New York hospital after a skiing accident in Canada which left her with head injuries.
Her husband actor Liam Neeson released a statement saying the family were “shocked and devastated” by the tragedy.
The 45 year old is the daughter of star Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson. Her sister is actress Joely Richardson.
Natasha fell on a beginners slope during a skiing lesson in Quebec, Canada on Monday. Initially she felt fine but was later rushed to hospital after complaining of severe headaches. (more…)

SAN FRANCISCO -(Dow Jones)- Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Thursday launched the latest version of its Internet Explorer browser, heavy on privacy features, as it seeks to reverse market share gains from competitors.
Internet Explorer 8 can be freely downloaded in 25 languages from Microsoft’s Web site from noon eastern time Thursday, the company said in a statement. (more…)

Verimatrix has said that its Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for Internet Protocol on Television (IPTV) has been deployed to protect IPTV services to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) customers.
IPTV is a system that delivers digital content services to subscribers using the Internet protocol over a broadband connection through closed network infrastructure. (more…)

MUMBAI: The current market rally might have evoked a sense of recovery among investors, but wise market men refuse to take a call on that. Retail investors are advised not to make any hasty investment decisions swayed by such rally, which is a result of mostly global and part domestic cues.
The key indices of BSE and NSE have been on a winning streak since March 9. Today (Mar 18), the Sensex breached the 9100 level but closed off it at 8976 while the Nifty closed at 2794. This translates to a gain of 815.6 points and 221 points, respectively, during this period. (more…)

BANGALORE: Bangalore girl Deepika Sukumar has won the Miss South India crown for 2009, becoming the first contestant from Karnataka to ever win the contest.
