LUCKNOW: Even as UP Jal Nigam employees continued their hunger strike for the third consecutive day on Wednesday over delay in the implementation of sixth pay commission report, on the same issue the UP State Corporation Employees Mahasangh (UPSCEM) announced to boycott work on March 6 and threatened to go on strike if its demands were not met soon.
While the government has implemented sixth pay commission for nearly 12 lakh state employees, it has forgot to revise the scales of three lakh employees working in the corporations. Now with election code of conduct in force, it is difficult to issue any order for pay hike of employees. Government can do so only by taking special permission from the Election Commission.
The health of Ram Sewak Shukla, convener of UP Jal Nigam Adhikari-Karamchari Sangharsh Samiti, who is on hunger strike since last three days, deteriorated on Wednesday. The two demands of the Samiti are implementation of sixth pay commission report and increase in superannuation age to 60 years. The Samiti has also announced that its members will not celebrate Holi in protest.
On the other hand PC Kureel, general secretary, UPSCEM, a body representing employees associations of all the corporations in the state, said that three lakh employees will boycott work on March 6. He said that UPSCEM is getting support of all the state employees association. “Government has assured to revise pay but we will continue to protest till it is executed,” he
said.
