GOA: Workers of the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) had a showdown with the labour commissioner and managing director of the corporation over the delay in the implementation of the sixth pay commission-recommended scales.

Following an ongoing dharna by the KTC Drivers’ and Allied Employees’ Association since February 24, in protest of the delay in implementation of the new scales, the workers and KTC’s managing director were called for negotiations before the labour commissioner on Monday. (more…)

PATNA — The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the state government to take action with regard to implementation of the revised pay package for college and university teachers of the state.

In a fax message sent to the state HRD secretary, the UGC has pleaded for payment of revised pay, enhancement of the age of superannuation from 62 to 65 years, and release of 40 per cent arrears during the current financial year itself. The payment may be made taking an undertaking from each beneficiary that any excess payment made due to incorrect fixation shall be adjusted against the future payments due. (more…)

BHUBANESWAR: The three-day statewide ceasework by government veterinary doctors
was called off on Wednesday, following a high-level discussion with chief secretary Ajit Tripathy in presence of animal husbandry director Bishnupada Sethi and other top government officials.

President of Orissa Veterinary Association Saroj Kanungo, who led a four-member delegation for discussion said their demands could not be taken up in the wake of imposition of election code of conduct in force now. However, he said the chief secretary had agreed that their demands would be referred to the anomaly committee for consideration, following which they gave consent to call off the strike, Kanungo added. Ahmedabad, March 5 (IANS) Junior doctors in government and municipal hospitals in Gujarat called off their indefinite strike Thursday morning following assurances from the government to consider their demand for a hike in monthly stipend after the Lok Sabha poll.

“We have been assured by the state government that it will actively consider the demand of the junior doctors for a hike in monthly stipend as per the stipulated structure recommended in the Sixth Pay Commission after the Lok Sabha poll. The junior doctors have now decided to join their duties back in the various hospitals across the state,” a spokesman of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) told IANS. (more…)

Itanagar, Mar 3 : The Arunachal Pradesh assembly today witnessed a verbal duel in the ruling Congress with Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu alleging that his bete noir and predecessor Gegong Apang had his own son kidnapped to tarnish the image of the government.

Khandu made the allegation when Apang rued that the chief minister did not take him into confidence on dealing with the indefinite pen down strike by the employees demanding implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, which paralysed the state administration for 22 days till last week. Ranchi, March 3: Finance secretary Rajbala Verma today assured teachers that she would look into their demand for a salary structure similar to the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

The teachers had been threatening an agitation if their pay demands were not met.

Both secondary and primary schoolteachers had decided to cease work. (more…)

Itanagar, March 4: Congress MLA Kipa Babu today drew the attention of Arunachal Pradesh home minister Jarbom Gamlin that the state’s law and order situation had deteriorated over the past one year following a sharp rise in incidents of murder, abduction and burglary, adding to the security concerns of the people of the state.

Speaking in the Assembly, the legislator from Itanagar constituency also criticised the state government for its inordinate delay in making a central jail operational in the state. (more…)

LUCKNOW: The state government move to woo teachers of the higher education and employees before Lok Sabha elections by implementing sixth pay commission may boomerang.

While the order issued for pay revision of teachers gives hiked salaries only from December 1, 2008 instead of January 1, 2006, as recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the government forgot to issue an order for the employees of the corporations.

Teachers were shocked to see the government order issued on Tuesday on pay hike which said that the revision will be applicable from December 1, 2008. It also did not mention about revision of pension to retired teachers. (more…)

Mumbai: At a time when the economy is growing at its slowest pace in six years and hitting consumer confidence, India’s car makers have had an unexpected stroke of good luck: the Sixth Pay Commission wage hikes and arrears. Helped along by special promotions by car manufacturers launched in the second half of last year, many government employees are using the arrears, which are retroactive from January 2006, to buy cars.

For some such as Dinesh Chand, a clerical assistant with the ministry of home affairs for 28 years, the arrears helped realize a cherished dream. “I have always wanted to buy a car for my family, but it was always out of my reach. The arrears and the expected increase in salary helped me make my decision to finally buy one,” said Chand, who bought a Maruti Suzuki Zen. The sales numbers for two of India’s largest car makers, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), reflect the trend more accurately. (more…)
