PALANPUR: He has ruled out ruling the country if Congress wins the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. And, he hates to hazard any guess whether he would be the prime minister five years later when country goes to polls again.
“No way… Congress has already projected Manmohan Singh as the next PM. And, as far as 2014 is concerned, I can’t say. It’s too distant a future,” said Rahul Gandhi, scion of Gandhi-Nehru family, while replying to a question by an advisasi youth Ajay Dabhi, in temple town Ambaji.
After fascinating young women and students in the state, Gandhi brought smiles to hundreds of tribals in north Gujarat and exhorted their youth to join Congress.
Besides addressing around 600 tribal youths at Sanali on the second day of the two-day pre-election tour to Gujarat, Gandhi also visited the famous Ambaji temple and met farmers at Dr Nalinkanth Gandhi Town Hall in Himmatnagar.
A day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s ranting against him, Gandhi also did some tongue-lashing saying that the Modi’s was a government for rich and not the poor. Of course, this was his reply to a rather uncomfortable question by a young student at Sanali, Pushpa Rathod, who sought to know whether Congress can ensure a project like the Nano in Sabarkantha’s tribal belt so that youth can get employment.
The youths, including women, had come from far away places like Vijaynagar, Khedbrahma and Bhiloda talukas of Sabarkantha district, Danta and Amirgadh in Banaskantha and Devgadh Baria taluka of Panchmahals district to catch a glimpse of the young Gandhi. Fielding questions on poverty alleviation of tribals, he listed UPA’s schemes and ensured his party’s commitment for
this cause.
Congress has also reduced the primary enrolment fees for young schedule caste and schedule tribe persons from Rs 10 to Rs five.
