Interim Budget: Union Budget, Budget 2009-10

Pranab Mukherjee has begun presenting the interim budget in the Lok Sabha for the next fiscal amid expectations that measures will be announced to cushion the impact of global meltdown on the Indian economy, and help revive consumer demand. The Minister also announced that India Infrastructure Finance Company will raise Rs 10,000 crore from the market by the end of March 2009. (more…)

BL reported that the Sixth Pay Commission award to 1.4 million employees and 1.1 million pensioners will cost the Indian Railways INR 13,600 crore during 2008-09 and over INR 14,000 crore in the coming fiscal.

The 2008-09 rail budget had originally provided for an ad-hoc allocation of INR 5,000 crore to meet the incremental commitments arising from the Pay Commission award, including INR 4,000 crore towards salaries and INR 1,000 crore on account of pensions. (more…)

NEW DELHI: Hoping to woo voters from among serving and retired armed forces personnel, the BJP on Sunday expressed concern over the UPA
government’s neglect of the ex-servicemen’s demand of “one rank one pension”.

Ex-servicemen have been vehemently opposing the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission since it was implemented by the government and even launched a nationwide agitation in protest against the move, party president Rajnath Singh pointed out in a statement. (more…)

NEW DELHI: Protesting disparity in the pay scales of nurses, Delhi Nursing Union (DNU) will start a four-day long relay hunger strike from Monday
followed by boycott of OPD and ward services from January 24.

According to the DNU officials, if the government fails to address their demands after the strike, from February 24 to February 27 nurses of all central and state government hospitals will disrupt OPD and ward services for two hours (9am to 11am). If that too fails, the nurses plan to take mass casual leave on March 3 followed by indefinite strike from March 5. (more…)

NAGPUR: The row over the implementation of sixth pay commission refuses to go away. First, the state government employees had resorted to
protests over the ‘inordinate delay’ in the implementation of the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission at the state level.

Now, after the recommendations have been implemented, all the state government employees — deputy collectors, additional collectors, tehsildars and naib tehsildars – will go on a mass casual leave on Monday to protest against the discrepancies in the salary structure. (more…)

4.5 lac employee to begin 3-day halt from today

Srinagar, Feb 15: As the deadlock between the government and its 4.5 lakh employees over the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations continues, the entire work force of the government will go on three-day state-wide strike from Monday.

The employee leaders are likely to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah (if he has got time) on Monday. The employees have already held a marathon three-hour long meeting with Finance, Law and Parliamentary affairs minister, Abdur Rahim Rather on Friday. The meeting, however, failed to break the deadlock. (more…)

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday asked the Omar Abdullah government to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission in the state without further delay.

“The government must fulfil the commitment made during the elections on the implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission,” a PDP spokesperson said here. (more…)
