Government employees called for a three-day strike against ‘non-serious’ attitude of the state regarding the implementation of the 6th pay commission.
Srinagar Government employees of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday called for a three-day strike as a protest against “non-serious” attitude of the state regarding its committee’s recommendations for the implementation of the 6th pay commission.
“We are compelled to announce an agitation for three days commencing from February 16 as a protest against the state’s non-seriousness about implementation of the recommendations of the committee the government had set up,” a spokesman of the J&K government employees’ joint consultative committee (JCC) said on Wednesday.
The committee set up by Governor N N Vohra during his rule had recommended implementation of the 6th pay commission report, removal of pay anomalies, uniformity of wages, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years and conversion of COLA (Cost of living allowance) to dearness allowance for PSU employees.
The JCC representing five lakh employees threatened further agitation if government failed to redress the pending grievances of the employees, the spokesman said.
Earlier, the employees observed a day’s strike on January 28 and went on two-day strike from Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs A R Rather said the government has already agreed in principle to implement the recommendations of the 6th pay commission.
The matter has been taken up with the centre for allocation of funds to meet the demand of employees, he said.
However, since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was ill, it could not be persuaded further, he added.
