Itanagar, Feb. 11: The Arunachal Pradesh government has invoked the provisions of Essential Service Maintenance (Arunachal Pradesh) Act, 1993 (Esma), against the agitating employees in a bid to dissuade them from continuing the third phase of an indefinite strike that began on February 5.

The decision came after yesterday’s cabinet meeting took a note of the ongoing strike spearheaded by the newly formed Central Executive Committee of Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh.

The confederation is locked in a tussle with the government demanding the total implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission.

The government has stuck to its stand of providing a modified pay package from January 1, 2009, and payment of sixth months’ arrears in three instalments.

one each in the current financial year and rest two in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

However, the confederation wants arrears from 2006 to 2008.
