Everybody knows that January 31st is Preity Zinta’s birthday. However, the pretty actress invited trouble by partying loud into the wee hours of 1st February.
The Mumbai police called on Preity Zinta’s house at Bandra and asked her to turn down the volume of the music following complaints from the slum-dwellers in the neighbourhood. The residents of the area complained that loud music was played at the birthday bash late into the night. (more…)

NEW DELHI: After almost nine days in hospital, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday morning.
He left for his official residence, 7 Race Course Road, at 7.45 am accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur. (more…)

Bangalore (IANS): India’s tech hub should be divided into six special security zones and community policing introduced to make it a safer place, says a Karnataka government-appointed panel.
The panel – ABIDe or Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure and Development Task Force – was set up in August last year. Its documents were released Jan 20 for public discussion. (more…)

It looks like Microsoft is speeding up its release of Windows 7.
According to arstechnica.com, Microsoft employees are predicting that the new operating system – set to replace the much-criticized Vista – will be released on October 3, 2009. That would be about three months ahead of Microsoft’s official schedule. (more…)

Bangalore (PTI): Close on the heels of the Centre reducing fuel prices, the Karnataka government on Saturday announced an cut in bus fares to the extent of 3.5 per cent with effect from Febaruary 5.
The buses plying in rural areas would reduce fares by 6.7 per cent and 2.7 per cent for express services, State Minister for Transport R Ashok told reporters here. However fares for high-tech buses plying on long distance would not be reduced now, he said. (more…)

If I am doing my PG through distance learning, could I do my PhD in regular mode? After PG through distance mode, could I do PhD from distance mode?

After doing your PG via distance learning, you are eligible to take up a regular PhD programme in regular mode provided you secure 55% (GM) at the PG level. You need to take up the entrance examination for taking up the PhD course, notification for which normally appears during August/ September. (more…)
