New Delhi (PTI): Private schools in the capital on wednesday reacted angrily to the Delhi government’s decision on fee hike which said the increase should range between a maximum of Rs 500 and a minimum of Rs 100.
“Justice has not been done by the government. We are not happy. This is not acceptable,” said S K Bhattacharya, president, School Action Committee (SAC), a body of all private schools in the capital.
He said the schools will appeal against the decision and if no action is taken they may move the court on the issue.
Bhattacharya also said the decision on fee hike was taken considering political calculations and government did not study the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
“The hike is insufficient. With the approved hike, the schools will not be able to pay teachers as per recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
Delhi Government today approved a slab-wise fee increase in private schools, putting the maximum cap at Rs 500 and the minimum at Rs 100.
Private schools are demanding that they be allowed to hike fees by 40 to 50 per cent to pay salaries for their teachers as per the Sixth Pay Commission.
The schools are also seeking the government’s approval to charge Rs 8,000 per student for arrears to teachers. The government has, however, capped the arrear amount to Rs 4,000.
Bhattacharya said the schools will appeal to the government to review its decision and if it does not, they will have to knock the door of the court.
