Jalandhar, Jan 24 (PTI) Punjab government would soon implement recommendations of 6th pay commission and the proposal to increase the age of retirement of its employees from 58 to 60 would be put up before the state cabinet, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said today.
“Yes, the proposal for increasing the retirement age is very much under consideration”, Badal told reporters when asked about his comments on the issue.
The state finance department has suggested that Punjab would save, at least for now, an estimated Rs 1,932 crore on account of deferred payments on retirement benefits in case the age of retirement is increased to 60 years from 58 at present.
As per the report of the finance department, about 18,000 employees in Punjab would retire in the next two years and due to the poor financial condition of the state ex-chequer, it would be extremely difficult for the state government to give retirement dues to such a large number of employees.
Asked when the state government would implement the report of the 6th pay commission, the Chief Minister said a study of the report was already been conducted and very soon the report would be implemented by the state government. PTI
