Jammu , Jan 23 Painting a grim picture of the financial health in the state, Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather today said the state does not have resources to implement the Sixth Pay Commission.
“We are not against the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission but we do not have resources. The hitch is only to find resources to meet the implications,”Rahim, who took over as finance minister of state for the 4th time, told reporters here.
Claiming that no bill was pending when he had left the previous government in 2002, he said,”I am sorry but I admit bills are pending in treasuries, which does not have good health.”
“We could not even pay the bills of GP fund holders amounting to just Rs 24 crore. I, therefore, appeal to the employees to have faith in the government. We will discuss the pay commission issue in the first cabinet meet,”he said.
Referring to a meeting of finance ministers of various states with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue, Rahim said that the state government would send a team to Planning Commission on January 28 to find out ways to mobilise resources for the implementation of the pay commission.
“The implementation of the pay commission is not only the problem for J&K but for all the states. That is why Finance Ministers of various states have taken a joint decision to meet the PM. I hope he would be able to find out some way,” Rahim said.
The meeting with Singh is scheduled in the first week of February, he said.
