Srinagar, Jan 21: The senior trade union leader and Employees’ Joint Action Committee (A) senior vice-president, Bashir Ahmad Ganai has asked the government to implement the sixth pay commission recommendations in respect of state employees before they are forced to go on strike and come on the streets to press for the fulfillment of this demand.
Ganai was addressing a meeting of EJAC office-bearers and members here. He said the governor administration had constituted a committee headed by S L Bhat which submitted its report recommending the fulfillment of employees’ demands including implementation of pay commission report, enhancement of retirement age by two years, uniform work culture and regularization of adhoc and non-permanent employees. “The governor N N Vohra also approved the recommendations, but formal orders couldn’t be issued under the cover of code of conduct which was in force for assembly polls,” said Ganai.
He said no doubt the chief minister, Omar Abdullah’s announcements regarding employees’ problems were encouraging, but there remained much to be done practically. “The employees were deprived of six pay commission under the cover of code of conduct because of recent assembly elections and now if its implementation is again delayed, they will be again deprived of the same due to the code of conduct to be enforced in the run up to the forthcoming parliamentary elections,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ganai appealed to the employees and workers to make proposed strike a complete success.
