LUCKNOW: There was confusion, mayhem and chaos at the Vidha Sabha Marg and its surrounding areas, bringing traffic to a grinding halt when thousands of teachers and state employees converged on the busy Hazratganj area and held a massive demonstration and later took out a procession in support of their demands. The demonstration was held on the call given by Karmachari Shikshak Samanvay Samiti, UP.

The demonstrators were peeved at the incomplete and partial implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission report. The coordinator of the samiti, Lallan Pandey alleged that despite chief minister Mayawati’s announcement made in the assembly on August 18 followed by the government order (GO) issued on August 22, the government backtracked and left out teachers and employees of local bodies, corporations, public undertakings, zila panchayats and development authorities in giving all benefits as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission.

“The government gave a severe blow to the principle of `parity’ by not approving pay scales and house rent allowances (HRA) at par with Central government employees as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission. Even the provision of promotional pay scales being given to the state employees since years is being changed”, rued president of Shikshak Sangh Om Prakash Sharma, MLC. He said that the samiti would boycott work from January 16 at all district headquarters and hold a massive rally in the state capital on February 3 against this injustice.

Later, a resolution passed in the meeting strongly condemned the harassment of officers and employees in the name of illegal donations which led to the murder of PWD executive engineer Manoj Gupta. If this tendency was not stopped forthwith it would have serious consequences, warned the resolution.
