Russia’s Ksenya Sukhinova was crowned Miss World 2008 after beating scores of international beauties, including India’s Parvathy Omanakuttan who finished first runner up, at a glittering African extravaganza held here.

“Miss World 2008 is Russia,” announced Julia Morley, head of the Miss World committee that organises the event. The 21-year-old Parvathy, who hails from Kottayam in Kerala, narrowly missed out on joining five Indian glamour queens Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999) and Priyanka Chopra (2000) who had won the title. New York – Sales for the Wii this holiday season are out and show that the Wii is outselling the next closest gaming console, the XBox 360 by almost 3 to 1 in November.

Microsoft had hoped that black Friday would propel them to the front of the market, but the Wii held onto its lead and actually pulled farther ahead than anyone had imagined. Wii shipments this month have exceeded 2.04 million while the XBox tallied in at 836,000, far under monthly prospects. Playstation ranks a very distant 3rd, shipping only 378,000. (more…)

NEW DELHI: The second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC), in its latest report on Friday has suggested a number of radical changes for revamping the Civil Services Examination system.

ARC, headed by Congress leader M Veerappa Moily, has suggested bringing a new civil services law with provisions of performance-based continuation of service, accountability and new system of promotion and cadre allotment. The 377-page report also talks about mandatory training at different stages of a civil servant’s career. (more…)

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) — Russian blonde Kseniya Sukhinova is the new Miss World.

Sukhinova was crowned after a two-hour spectacle in Johannesburg Saturday that combined elements of travelogue and reality show, and the kind of flag-waving usually seen at sports events. She beamed as she was crowned. (more…)
