NEW DELHI: The election campaign for the New Delhi constituency gained momentum on Sunday with BJP candidate Vijay Jolly meeting his electorate in Gole market area and local MLA, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, holding a meeting on poll preparations with the party workers of her constituency at her residence.

Dikshit and her supporters expressed confidence of registering hattrick from the constituency as the chief minister said she did not need to `worry’ about Gole Market area as her loyal supporters would take care of the election. “We need to put our efforts in all those areas which have been included in the New Delhi constituency. You all understand that being the chief minister, I have to take care of the entire city,” she said.

Congress workers who participated in the meeting said they have been told to approach voters and talk about how the city has developed during Dikshit’s tenure. “We will tell people how the implementation of sixth Pay Commission recommendation has brought unexpected benefit to government employees and retired persons. We will go to the voters with achievements of Delhi government and also with an explanation about the price rise being due to global factors,” said a party worker from Lodi Colony.

While the CM seems to be in `comfortable’ position considering her popularity, Jolly accepted that he has to put in more effort. “I have chalked out my plan and will be meeting party workers of all the four Mandals. I also plan to shift my election office to this locality,” he said.

Interacting with RWA members the colonies in Gole Market, Jolly said the `little’ benefit of pay review has not benefited lakhs of low-grade employees because of `high’ inflation. Jolly did not leave a chance to take on the CM on local issues.

“Several parks lie neglected the constituency of the CM, who claims of beautifying the city. The law and order situation has worsened. All claims of government putting in place a disaster-management system in the city was exposed when the injured had to be taken to hospital in private vehicles after the blasts in CP and Barakhamba Road,” he pointed out.

The BSP, meanwhile, has been carrying out its campaign for over a month. “We have already held block and booth-level meeting of party workers. Low-rank government employees have been neglected and they are with us. We will surprise everyone,” claimed party candidate advocate Rajiv Singh.
