“Issue being examined”

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Wednesday denied differences between the Government and the armed forces over the Sixth Pay Commission’s pay scales. “There is no difference between the government and the services, because they are also part of the government. Don’t read too much,”

Mr. Antony told journalists on the sidelines of the Defence Accounts Day function here.

He said the services chiefs had “noted some problems and anomalies” in the government order on pay hike which is “but natural” and the issue was being examined at an appropriate level.

Services chiefs had recently ventilated the tremendous dissatisfaction in the armed forces over the pay scales for some middle and senior officers besides revised pensionary benefits.

The ‘other ranks’ had earlier quietly accepted the revised special pay for military services which was less than that recommended by the services.
