New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Auspicious Navratras and Eid have come with added happiness for the government babus who today received fat pay packets including 40 per cent arrears in line with the Sixth Pay Commission recommendation.
Central government distributed the increased salary to about 35 lakh government employees today, which happens to be the second day of Navratras and last day of the Ramazan to be followed by Eid.
Although many government officials were happy having received almost 30 per cent more in salary in addition to arrears at the beginning of the festival season, a few did feel they should have got a better deal.
A middle-level officer pointed out, “With the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission, difference between pay scales among different grades of officials has increased now.” Government employees all over the country received the new pay along with 40 per cent arrears following recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, which was later modified by the government. The government employees will receive the remaining 60 per cent arrears in the next financial year.
“All central government employees are getting enhanced salaries and 40 per cent of arrears (with effect from January 2006) in all parts of the country except in Kerala where it’s a holiday today,” Confederation of Central Government Employees Secretary General K K N Kutty told PTI.
He said, “We are happy that we have got our due today. But regarding some of other demands which could be addressed, we have written letter to Cabinet Secretary.” PTI (http://www.ptinews.com)
