AGARTALA: At least two persons were killed and 50 injured on Wednesday night in a string of five blasts set off here by suspected terrorists in a span of five minutes.
Twenty of the injured are stated to be in critical condition.
The first blast went off at Radhanagar bus stand at around 7.30pm and it was followed by the explosions in the other places in quick succession, police sources said. (more…)

The blasts went off at Agartala’s main shopping area Maharaja Ganju Bazar, Gobind Ballah Pant market, busy Radhanagar bus stand, Agartala Motorstand and Abhay Nagar localities. PTI

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Auspicious Navratras and Eid have come with added happiness for the government babus who today received fat pay packets including 40 per cent arrears in line with the Sixth Pay Commission recommendation.
Central government distributed the increased salary to about 35 lakh government employees today, which happens to be the second day of Navratras and last day of the Ramazan to be followed by Eid.
Although many government officials were happy having received almost 30 per cent more in salary in addition to arrears at the beginning of the festival season, a few did feel they should have got a better deal. (more…)

The government is likely to increase “substantially” the allowances given to personnel of the paramilitary force in an effort to bring the amount “on par” with that of the armed forces.
“We will have allowances of our men raised substantially in the next 60 days. We are trying to bring it on par with the personnel of the armed forces,” newly appointed Director General of BSF M L Kumawat today said. (more…)
New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Defence Minister A K Antony today said there were no differences between the government and the armed forces over the 6th Central Pay Commission (CPC) report.
His statement comes in the wake of the defence forces’ signal to its 1.5 million personnel on the “anomalies” in the CPC, asking them to “be patient in the larger interest of the Services,” which was seen as an act of defiance of the Cabinet decision to implement revised pay scales from September 1.
