Bangalore (PTI): Amid protests over the ban on playing of live music and dancing at pubs in the city, police today raided and closed down 32 discotheques which were “operating illegally.”
The discos were operating without a legal valid license, Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters here on Monday. (more…)

NEW DELHI: Nearly 600 foreign and national companies will participate in Aero India-2009, one of the largest international aerospace exhibitions, to be held in Bangalore next year.
Armament majors from several countries, including the US, Britain, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Belgium, Brazil, Spain, Ukraine and the Netherlands, will participate in Asia’s premier show starting February 9. (more…)

Bangalore: A state cabinet sub-committee is still analyzing the possibilities of scrapping the capital value system (CVS) of property tax collection in Bangalore . International examples , though, suggest ensuring streamlined tax-collection depends more on administrative will than the model of taxation.
Lawrence C Walters , professor of public policy and management at Romney Institute of Public Management, Utah, while presenting a paper during an international conference on public policy and management, said ability to realize the potential of land-based tax critically depends on quality of governance. The singer reportedly head-butted her brother after a row over her behaviour in church. It all sounds very bizarre, but let us explain.
Joss turned up at St George’s Church in Taunton to be godmother to half-brother Daniel Skillin’s year-old son Louis.

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (Reuters) – Republican presidential candidate John McCain isn’t letting Paris Hilton distract him from his new line of attack — that Barack Obama is more of a celebrity than a leader.
McCain on Wednesday released a second television ad that paints Obama as a celebrity, following an earlier ad that linked his Democratic rival in the November election to tabloid staples like Hilton and Britney Spears. (more…)

There’s a lot to be said for the company you keep, which is no doubt why reigning American Idol champ David Cook has opted to team up with a Grammy-winning producer for his forthcoming solo album.
Joining an already rock-credentialed roster of talent that has lended a hand on Cook’s untitled album, due sometime this November, is producer Rob Cavallo, whose résumé boasts collaborations with Green Day, Kid Rock, Eric Clapton, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls and the Dave Matthews Band.
