BANGALORE:The results of the Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) 2008 conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges (COMEDK) were announced on Wednesday.

Candidates from other states have bagged the medical and engineering ranks, though a good number of students from Karnataka have also fared well and bagged a majority of ranks in the top 100.

The UGET for professional courses in medical, dental and engineering was conducted on May 4 and as many as 61,200 candidates appeared for the test.

Bharavi K S from Andhra Pradesh securedthe first rank in engineering and Kevin John John from Kerala the first rank in medical. Six students from Karnataka figured among the top 10 ranks in engineering,while five from the State showed up among the top 10 medical ranks.

On the performance of Karnataka candidates, Dr SKumar, Executive Secretary, COMEDK said, “This year, a number of students from the State have gained a place in the top 100 ranks, unlike previous years. The performance of Karnataka and non-Karnataka students among the top 1000 ranks in both medical and engineering, is in accordance with the proportion in which they took the UGET.” Sri Siddhartha College in Tumkur,meanwhile,has been granted deemed university status.

Dr Kumar said COMEDK had received communication from the college that it would not be part of the COMEDK system. “We will stand to lose about 40 medical seats,”he disclosed.

The first round of counselling will begin on June 24. The COMEDK Counselling for Medical, Dental, Engineering, Architecture will be conducted through the Central Counselling System. A total of 14 medical, 28 dental, 113 engineering and 9architecture colleges under the COMEDK will be available to candidates for selection of professional seats.
