NEW DELHI: Microsoft India has announced a range of price reductions on the retail versions of Windows Vista.

Aimed at benefiting individuals purchasing stand-alone copies of Windows Vista, the price reduction is effective immediately and will be applicable only for Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate editions.

The reduction varies from 13 per cent to 39 per cent, with the estimated retail price for Windows Vista Home Basic Edition now at Rs 4,000, Windows Vista Home Premium available for Rs 5,300 and Windows Vista Ultimate at Rs 11,500.

BERLIN: German politician Willi Lemke, the United Nations’ (UN) new Special Representative for Sports and Development, will visit China “as soon as possible”, it was announced on Wednesday.

“UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon wants me to inform him how the Olympic Games can be used as a platform for peace,” Lemke said in a press conference.

“I want to see the situation for myself,” added the 61-year-old. Lemke, whose new UN position was announced on Tuesday, said the human rights issue and recent unrest in Tibet is the “main problem” which will occupy him during the forthcoming months.

But the German insists he is not in favour of a boycott of this summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing which take place from August 8-24.

Some 1m people in India’s northeastern state of Mizoram are facing famine after a plague of rats ate the region’s entire paddy crop.

Hordes of rats swept through the forests of Mizoram, feasting on the fruits of wild bamboo, which flowers every 48 years.

Experts say that the rich protein content of the bamboo fruits increases the rats’ reproductive power.

The rats moved onto farmers’ crops after finishing off the fruits.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2007 on 18th May, 2008 for recruitment the 671 posts of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and certain other Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ Central Services / Posts.

Eligibility:

Age : Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 01/08/2008. The upper age is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.

Educational Qualification: Degree of a recognised university or an equivalent qualification.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2007 held by the UPSC in October – November, 2007. The result includes the roll numbers of the candidates who have qualified for Personality Test for selection to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and other Central Services (Group `A’ and Group `B’). The result is available on the UPSC’s website: upsc.gov.in.

The candidature of these candidates is provisional subject to their being found eligible in all respects. The candidates would be required to produce the original certificates in support of their claims relating to age, educational qualifications, community, physical disability etc. at the time of the Personality Test. They are, therefore, advised to keep the said prescribed certificates ready.

A commercial aired in the Orlando area last night during RAW advertising Randy Orton and JBL vs. John Cena and Chris Jericho for the RAW the night after WrestleMania 24. This match will likely be a dark main event.

WWE Mobile aired a video last night of John Cena and Randy Orton in the ring after RAW. Cena went to compliment Orton on their match and extend his hand to be shook. However, the WWE Champion tried an RKO, only to have it countered by a successful FU by John Cena.

WWE Stone Cold Steve Austin

WWE Legend Stone Cold Steve Austin today visited Ricky Hatton at the gym he trains at in Manchester to present Hatton with WWE tag team title belts for him and his eight-year-old son Campbell. While there Austin was quoted by Simon Rothstein for the Sun UK in regards to his love for Boxing and discussed Hatton’s fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hatton lost to Mayweather this past December.

Austin was quoted on his love for boxing, saying he has been following the game for a long time. Austin also admitted he 
is a huge fan of Hatton: “I’ve been following the boxing game, in all weight classes, for a long time,” said Austin, adding: “I’m a big fan of Ricky’s and it was a pleasure to meet him today.”
