A new channel providing content based on CBSE curriculum goes on the air

NEW DELHI: “Topper”, a curriculum-based education TV channel, went on the air on Monday.

Part of “Topper Integrated Learning System”, the channel will provide curriculum-based content that will comply with the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education and other related State Boards. The education-based channel will initially cover physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Catering initially to students of Classes IX to XII, the channel will telecast six episodes daily. While four of them will be based on regular courses, two would be structured on the pattern of exam specials. For the convenience of students, all episodes will have four repeat telecasts over the week.

Helpful modules

The modules complement existing tools of traditional classroom teaching and have the technological muscle to deal with concepts that are difficult to explain theoretically. Further, the unique problem-solving style along with useful examination tips that are discussed are aimed at giving students a clear edge.

Launched by Greycells18 Media, the channel is a joint venture floated by Sunil Khanna (former Head, DTH, Reliance and CEO, DishTV), and Sricharan Iyengar (former vice-president and Business Head, ESPN Star Sports). It is co-promoted by Raghav Bahl of Network18 and Shantanu Prakash of Educomp in their personal capacities and Network18’s private equity initiative — Capital18.

According to Sunil Khanna, “With limited seats available in colleges and premium professional courses, it is imperative to have a strong primary and secondary education background. Thus there is a significant opportunity to supplement the existing school system for children to make the most of their secondary education. We hope ‘Topper’ will provide a major impetus to the current education system.”

Talking about the faculty, Sricharan Iyengar said that ‘Topper’ features a group of star teachers who have been carefully identified. “With exceptional track records, these individuals come armed with experience gathered from teaching in the best institutes. This team will present modules to students in the simplest manner.”

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the www.topperlearning.com web portal has been designed to corroborate lessons done on television. The easy-to-use site is arranged class-wise in a structured topic format so that students across Boards can make use of it.

Website

After viewing a topic on ‘Topper’, a student can access additional study material on the site and also take tests online. A performance record of each student is maintained to check progress. The portal also offers an interactive facility whereby students have access to a panel of experts who will answer their queries online.
