Microsoft’s expectations are running high for the upcoming release of Windows Server 2008. Steve Ballmer, the company’s CEO, will officially launch the server software at an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, capping months of beta testing by customers around the world.

The launch is vitally important to Microsoft, which hopes sales of the updated server software will spur wider adoption of Windows Vista by corporate customers that have so far resisted the urge to upgrade from Windows XP.

“We think with Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008, the integrated benefits that customers see will really encourage them to start looking at deployments of Vista on the desktop as well,” said Jagan Narendran, the director of Microsoft Asia-Pacific’s Infrastructure Server Business.

WWE WrestleMania XXIV

WrestleMania XXIV is the forthcoming twenty-fourth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It is scheduled to take place on March 30, 2008 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The event will be the first WrestleMania to be held in the state of Florida.

It will also be the second WrestleMania to be held entirely outdoors, the only other having been WrestleMania IX. WWE and the city of Orlando plan to host festivities that will span over a five-day period within the central Florida region, bringing numerous branding opportunities and television coverage, leading up to the event at the Citrus Bowl. Despite the risks of an outdoor show, WWE chairman Vince McMahon has announced that the “show will go on, regardless of the weather.” The Central Florida Sports Commission estimate WrestleMania XXIV will pump $25 million into the local economy while creating numerous jobs, and bring around 60,000 visitors to the city for the event.

American Idol returned for its seventh season when it aired on January 15, 2008 for a two day, four hour premier. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe revealed small changes will be made in the show upon its return in 2008. It was reported that more attention will be paid to who the contestants are, where they come from, and why fans should care to vote for them. Nothing as dramatic as the songwriting competition or an age-limit change was planned for the season. Still, the executive producer owns up to the fact that season 6 took the focus away from the contestants, their backgrounds and their talent, and it needs to get back on track. (more…)

Bangalore, Feb 11: The country’s first customer (patient) satisfaction study of hospitals across the country has revealed that the silicon city’s Manipal Super-specialty Hospital is the best, followed by Indraprastha Apollo of Delhi.

The premier All India Institute of Medical Services ranks fourth in the overall rating. Over 4,000 consumers from six metro cities and nine districts have said that they would recommend these two hospitals to their friends and relatives. The study conducted by Voluntary Organisation in the Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) in collaboration with Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has some surprises as well.

For instance, the famous Lilavati Hospital of Mumbai, known for treating film stars is at the 15th position. The least recommended was the Apollo Gleneagles. Providing information about fee charged is a major issue with which the patients are concerned.

Unfortunately the study has found that not many hospitals are transparent. A little over 30 per cent feel that the super-specialty hospitals are transparent as far as their financial dealings are concerned. A majority of those surveyed felt that super-specialty hospitals do not inform the patients about the various charges for services.
