The work on Reach One of the Bangalore Metro Rail project is moving towards completion.
The Bangalore Metro has arrived into its ‘visible’ state. Work is progressing on schedule and anyone passing M G Road can see the piers slowly being erected. The work of construction of the viaduct or the elevated structure of Reach One spanning the area from the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium to Byappanahalli has been sourced to a private company. The cost estimated for the construction of this stretch comes to Rs 138.55 crores.
The project commenced in March early this year and has been slated to be completed by March 2009.
The foundation work, called piling, for the piers has already been completed on this stretch. Work has begun on the pillar or the walls, commonly known as piers which form the columns for the viaduct. The installation for the roof or the girder portion will begin in January next year. The girders will be fabricated elsewhere, brought to the area, and then installed. All the civil work will be finished by March-April 2009.
After this, the trains will be tested for six months and they should start running by March 2010.
Around 80 percent of the utility diversion works have already been completed in coordination with the utilities concerned so that civil works can go on unhindered here. With regard to the environmental aspect, ten trees have been planted for every tree cut. From M G Road, trees have been transplanted to other places.
