Chennai: As part of its new initiatives in education, Adobe Systems has launched Creative Suite 3, a new licensing programme for schools and colleges that is aimed at promoting digital communication in education.
The programme, a combination of software, curriculum, training and certification, aims to distribute creative and cost-effective software products at reduced prices, to enable educational institutions to use industry-standard software for students and faculty, Sandeep Mehrotra, country sales manager, Adobe Systems, told reporters on Friday.
Schools and colleges can now deploy Creative Suite, an integrated platform for design, web and video content, as part of their course curriculum.

Slipping two places, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was 32nd in the latest WTA Tour rankings released on Monday.
The 20-year-old, who has had to cut short her engagements because of a stomach muscle injury however managed to stay in top-20 in the doubles, ranked 19th.
Sania will not be seen in action till the Hopman Cup, were she has earned a direct entry. The tournament begins Dec 30.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Flash memory maker SanDisk Corp. on Monday will debut an online video service and a USB flash drive that can carry television programs and videos from a computer for playback on TVs.
The Sansa TakeTV video player — an ensemble of an oversized USB drive, remote control and a small dock that connects to a TV — and its accompanying video service, Fanfare, marks the latest attempt by a company looking to bridge content between the PC and the television.

Jalandhar, Oct 22: India’s top 14 teams would battle for supremacy in the 24th Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament, to be played here at Olympian Surjit Singh astro-turf hockey stadium, Burlton Park from Oct 26.
The tournament is organised by Surjit Hockey Society in the memory of Olympian Surjit Singh Randhawa, former skipper of the Indian team, who met with a tragic end near Jalandhar on January 7, 1983.

Melbourne (PTI): Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has highlighted concerns that his side may be physically and mentally exhausted when it arrives in Australia in December following a gruelling schedule.
The Indians have been flat out almost since May, and they will play arch rival Pakistan in a three-Test and five-match limited-overs series before reaching Down Under.
“We have a 10-day gap right now, and in between the Pakistan series and the Australian series we have just a three or four-day gap,” Dhoni said.

Pop singer Victoria Beckham is preparing to reveal a new look as the Spice Girls reunion draws near.
Mirror.co.uk quoted her as saying: “My hair just feels so luminous at the moment. I had this colour (blonde) done in LA when it was really bright and sunny. Now I go back to the UK and it’s a bit overcast and cold and I feel like I’m glowing in the dark. We shoot our new Spice Girls video next week and it’s time for a change. Let’s just say it’ll be quite different.”

After stopping at a Waffle House, Kid Rock gets into a fight with customer.
Kid Rock is once again arrested after a fight broke out at a Waffle House restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. The musician, along with band members, stopped at the eatery after his performance at the Tabernacle in Atlanta.
Rock and a female friend were recognized by a male customer. The customer then exchanged words with her, which escalated to a physical altercation between Kid Rock and the customer. As the fight moved outside to the parking lot, the customer punched out a restaurant window.

Singer Marc Anthony surprised a few people when he dedicated a special song to his wife Jennifer Lopez at a concert in Los Angeles.
People.com reports that Anthony said: “It’s a real personal song. This song has a whole new significance.” Anthony dedicated the song “Faithful”, which was originally sung by the rock band Journey.
Anthony performed for almost an hour before he asked fans how they were doing and then added: “This is such a special time.”

BANGALORE: Low-cost carrier Deccan today announced the launch of tele check-in facility for all its passengers at all 65 destinations.
Passengers flying to any destination on the Deccan network and carrying only one cabin bag, can tele check-in from 24 hours up to two hours prior to the time of departure, the airlines said in a statement.

With music aficionados in the hill state of Meghalaya still basking in the glory of Indian Idol finalist Amit Paul’s feat, they could not have asked for more as American rock band Mr Big is all set to perform here on October 27. Conceived just a few months ago, the Eric Martin-led group will perform for the first time in India in an exclusive one-off concert at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Polo here.
Christened as the ‘Festival of Rock’ and a part of the state’s Autumn Festival, the grand showdown is slated for October 27, and the organisers feel it would be “the biggest ever rock show of the country”.
